Former Bungie Art Director Does Not Understand the Hatred Towards Marathon
Former Bungie art director Joseph Cross spoke out about the wave of criticism surrounding the extraction shooter Marathon. The game experienced delays and an asset scandal, which created tension within the studio.
Cross stated that he is proud of his artistic work (noting that he has been involved in plagiarism scandals multiple times), despite public skepticism. He acknowledged that development is accompanied by immense commercial pressure, which limits creative risks.
Nevertheless, Cross is confident in the team's work, noting that doubts are common for any major project before its release.
Marathon will be released on March 5, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
