Minecraft clone Hytale got off to a great start — almost 3 million people joined the game Hytale, the long-awaited "spiritual successor" to Minecraft, has finally been released in early access. The project, which seemed to have been buried several years ago after investors pulled out, has not only returned but has also made a triumphant start: according to preliminary data, the game reached 2.8 million players in its first few hours online.
The game is distributed through its own launcher and costs $20 for the basic edition.
Two main modes are available at launch:
- Exploration of an infinite procedural world with biomes, resources, and monsters.
- Creativity with powerful built-in model and world editors.
Story mode, bosses, and mini-games will be added later. Modding tools, multiplayer support, and unstable "Ancient Gates" for testing new generation algorithms are already available.
The developers at Hypixel Studios plan to release frequent updates, responding quickly to community feedback. Despite a long and complicated development history, the launch of Hytale proves the huge interest players have in the new voxel sandbox.
