The situation is unfolding against the backdrop of Telegram's interaction with Russian regulators. As it became known, the messenger's management maintains a working relationship with Roskomnadzor.
Comments on the situation were provided by the Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Sergey Boyarsky. In his assessment, Telegram still has opportunities to resolve existing disagreements — for this, the platform will need to take a number of specific actions.
Boyarsky drew attention to the ambiguous practice of content moderation on the messenger. He noted that out of a hundred materials subject to removal at the request of regulators, some are indeed removed from public access, but another part remains available. Such selectivity, according to the deputy, raises questions.
