Starhelm Studios Showcases Gameplay of Fantasy-Style Immersive Simulator Project Shadowglass

Starhelm Studios has released a new gameplay video of their game Project Shadowglass. The two-minute clip showcases the atmosphere and mechanics of the project— a stealth-oriented immersive simulator set in a dark fantasy kingdom.

The game stands out with its unique visual style: 3D pixel graphics create a retro aesthetic effect, yet the world appears voluminous and alive.

A key gameplay feature is the long-term consequences system. Every player action leaves a mark: a decision made or a careless step can echo later, influencing the development of events and the character’s fate.

Project Shadowglass is inspired by classic stealth games like Thief, Deus Ex, and System Shock. In the storyline, the player becomes an unlucky thief whose life changes dramatically after a mysterious client tasks them with acquiring ancient artifacts hidden throughout the kingdom.

To handle the missions, players must use ingenuity: carefully plan excursions, use professional tools, and pull off nearly impossible heists.

The gameplay is divided into two modes—day and night.

  • During the day, the hero resides in a modest apartment in the slums, preparing for the next operations. Here, you can spend acquired gold on new tools and items, upgrade the covert workshop, gather intelligence, and study future excursion sites.
  • Night is the time for action. The main task is to remain unnoticed. The player is not a warrior: they are alone against many dangers, vulnerable and lacking numerical advantage. Any mistake can be fatal: they may need to flee, hide for several days, or engage in dangerous melee combat, the traces of which everyone will remember.

To successfully complete missions, the player must skillfully use the environment. They can hide in the dark, monitor guards’ routes, move quietly, extinguish torches, create distractions, and use objects for stealth.

Various methods are available for infiltrating locked or guarded areas: lockpicking, stealing keys, or finding hidden passages. There are also multiple ways to interact with enemies—from silent knockouts of guards followed by hiding the bodies to risky hand-to-hand combat.
