Nintendo's Crusade Against Emulators is Endless
Nintendo continues its systematic attack on emulation: the Citron, Eden, and Kenji-X repositories on GitHub have been targeted. The company has sent developers copyright infringement notices demanding the removal of materials within 24 hours.
Although emulators are legally permissible, Nintendo traditionally views them as a threat that facilitates piracy. This time, the restrictions have only affected GitHub—projects on other platforms remain untouched for now. Users are advised to save copies of the files in advance.
This is just one episode in a series of anti-piracy measures. Previously, Nintendo buried the creators of Yuzu, forcing them to pay millions and shut down the project, and last year, the FBI and Dutch authorities blocked a major ROM website, NSw2u. The company also warned that it might "brick" modified consoles.
It is evident that the pressure on emulation will only increase.
