Grinding gear games has promised not to abandon the original path of exile after the release of the sequel

Fans of the original Path of Exile can relax a bit — the studio says it’s not planning to abandon the first game. Grinding Gear Games co-founder Jonathan Rogers stated that support will continue even after the full launch of Path of Exile 2.

When PoE2 launched, the team's attention understandably swung toward the new title, which rattled some players; Rogers admitted the criticism about a lack of attention to the original was justified. He pointed out that each new league still draws big numbers, so there’s little reason to "retire the game." FYI, GGG has split teams across both projects (i.e., some devs remain on the original while others work on the sequel) so both games get ongoing support. That said, splitting staff isn’t a magic fix — running two live games at once is messy and will probably have rough patches.
