On May 29 it was revealed that a TV anime is being made of the adult doujinshi "The Lonely Snow Maiden and the Cursed Ring" (Hitozukiai ga Nigate na Miboujin no Yukionna-san to Noroi no Yubiwa). The creators claim this may be the first time an R-rated doujinshi has gone straight to a TV series without first being commercialized by a publisher — a curious route, if true.
Hitozukiai ga Nigate na Miboujin no Yukionna-san to Noroi no Yubiwa is an original doujinshi by Puuna Puudzaki, first issued in 2021. The premise? An awkward rom-com: Takahashi unexpectedly inherits an apartment building from his dad, and it turns out the residents are yōkai. He runs into Yukino, a yuka-onna (i.e., a snow-woman), and there’s an instant mutual spark — until a spat pushes them apart. Desperate to fix things, Takahashi finds a ring that grants mind-control over yōkai. Now he’s holding power that could either patch the relationship or be used for darker impulses; the moral tug-of-war is the core tension (FYI: adult/R-rated content).
After the anime announcement Puudzaki posted: "I'm sure many of you are looking at this and thinking, ‘Wait, an anime series? Not an OVA??’, but I'm more surprised than anyone else. I think that the reason this project has come this far is thanks to your support." They add that the adaptation will differ in places from the original, and that Puudzaki has been involved in production details down to the smallest things — and claims to be very pleased with how it’s going. Whether that level of oversight will shape the final tone remains to be seen.
