A Fan Remaster of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic Coming to Steam

The independent team of enthusiasts wiltOS Technologies shared joyful news — their fan remaster of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic will receive a Steam page and be called Dark Messiah: Community Edition.

For several years now wiltOS Technologies has been rebuilding parts of Dark Messiah: porting it to a newer build of the Source 1 engine and layering on mods to refresh how the game looks. They’re using NVIDIA’s RTX Remix as part of that effort.

The trick with RTX Remix here is partly automated. A trained AI scans the levels and produces upgraded models with ray tracing support; those outputs are then hand-tuned because AI results can be imperfect. The workflow also lets creators preview changes without restarting the game, and because the team exports in USD (Universal Scene Description), modders can edit assets in familiar tools (e.g., Blender) or other DCC apps.

Negotiations with Ubisoft and Valve preceded the Steam listing. Surprisingly, the rights holders didn’t block the project — they allowed the team to move forward without imposing conditions.

Beyond visuals, the project includes plans for a co-op mode and an SDK to make life easier for future modders. Expect full mod support, likely via the Steam Workshop — if all goes to plan.

No release date has been announced. In the meantime, players who want an early look can grab the first alpha of the RTX mod on GitHub.
