Variety of Tracks and Familiar Characters – Details on Star Wars: Galactic Racer
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a racing adventure set in the Star Wars universe from the studio Fuse Games, founded in 2023 by former Criterion bosses. The project leads spoke with journalists and revealed more details about the game.
First, a reminder: in Star Wars: Galactic Racer, you will take part in the Galactic League – an illegal racing circuit that originated in the Outer Rim. The competitions are controlled by the cunning and influential Kestar Buul. Fearing the complete loss of his brainchild, the league's organizer, Dorius Pax, calls upon the fearless racer Shade, who has personal scores to settle with the Buul family.
Below are the most interesting points from the conversation with the developers:
- According to Fuse Games founder and CEO Matt Webster, the team aims to breathe new life into some racing mechanics in Star Wars: Galactic Racer. For example, there will be a two-phase boost system. The first phase allows you to fly faster, and the second engages a ramjet engine for even more acceleration. However, this comes with consequences – in the second phase, the engine generates a lot of heat, so flying like that for too long can cause an explosion.
- Instead of an open world, Fuse Games opted for track variety – Star Wars: Galactic Racer will be a more classic racing game. The developers believe this decision should positively impact replayability.
- Locations in Galactic Racer are self-sufficient characters of the game that influence the course of a race, stated Webster. Racers will need to account for environmental conditions to reach the finish line. For example, on the volcanic planet Lantaa, the engine will reach operating temperature faster, but it will also overheat more actively. The pilot must monitor the temperature and cool down if necessary by flying over water. The project's Creative Director Kieran Crimmins added that in Galactic Racer, the racing line also depends on the piloted vehicle.
In our game, there is no single "correct" racing line – there is the one that suits the moment. That's why every race in the galactic tour will be unique: conditions change, and so does the strategy.

- In Galactic Racer, many pods are put together "on a shoestring" and are therefore very fragile. They race on tracks where collisions are inevitable – these crashes will be shown in all their glory to emphasize the danger of this sport.
- Star Wars: Galactic Racer will have a story mode, within which the protagonist will be able to walk around the paddock on foot, look at the racing pods, and interact with other characters. These more relaxed episodes are meant to balance out the action-packed races.
We learned this back when working on Burnout: you can't stay in a state of wide-eyed intensity, at 200 miles per hour – or, in our case, 400 miles per hour – indefinitely. You need a moment to decompress. And the paddock serves perfectly as that mechanism that allows us to do all of this.

- The game will feature a "good mix" of new and already familiar characters, including Ben Quadinaros and Sebulba. These two were shown in a recent gameplay trailer during the State of Play presentation.
- Star Wars: Galactic Racer is positioned as a premium release, so there will be no seasonal passes in the game. According to Fuse Games leadership, such a model is more suited to free-to-play titles. "We have a story campaign, an arcade mode, and multiplayer – it's all quite self-contained," said Webster. Currently, the developers are doing everything to make the game amazing from the start, but Crimmins admitted they might add something in the future.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is scheduled for release in 2026 for PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. Russian is not among the supported languages.
