This is no Cheburashka: Hollywood's best chest earned only 100 million rubles from the Russian weekend premiere of "The Maid"
The film "The Maid," starring rising Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney, has launched in Russian theaters. In its first three days of screenings, starting January 8th, its box office exceeded 100 million rubles.
The film's global box office performance is also impressive: total earnings have already surpassed the $134 million mark. The success has inspired Lionsgate to develop a sequel: production of the follow-up is planned to begin before the end of 2026, and Sweeney will return to her role.
The thriller is based on the bestseller by Frieda McFadden. The plot introduces viewers to Millie, a young woman who takes a job as a housekeeper in the luxurious mansion of the Winchester couple. The idyllic home life proves deceptive, and soon the heroine must uncover the chilling secret of her seemingly perfect employers.
