Pixel action-MMO Soulbound: Online from Spiderware studio is now in Early Access on Steam — but this release carries baggage. The game began life as the browser-based Web3 experiment Worldwide Webb, firmly tied to blockchain and NFT sales; today those elements are gone, the team moved it into a standalone client, and refocused it as a fantasy roguelike-adjacent adventure.

Players get a decent chunk of playtime in the current build: roughly 100 hrs of content (e.g., progression up to lvl 60, an open world to roam, crafting systems, and dynamic dungeons that can be tackled solo or in co-op). It feels like a rework rather than a fresh-born title: familiar pixel-action mechanics, some procedural dungeon bits, and the usual loop of gear and upgrades.

Reaction at launch was noisy — many reviews turned negative fast. Folks dug up Spiderware’s crypto-era history, pointed at large investments made back then, and raised questions about the use of AI tools in development. The controversy clearly affected uptake: peak concurrent players topped out at only 1,241. Whether the community will warm to the retooled product over time remains uncertain.
