Wizards of the Coast returns to the Fallout universe with new Magic: The Gathering cards
Two years ago, Wizards of the Coast released a themed expansion of Magic: The Gathering based on the Fallout universe — and it turned out to be quite successful. Although the set included characters and events from the game series, it was released a month before the premiere of the popular TV series, so the show’s actors were not featured. This situation will be rectified by the end of this month.
Wizards of the Coast has announced the release of four issues in the "Secret Lair" series, once again dedicated to the world of Fallout. One of them will be entirely devoted to the stars of the TV show. In this release, players will see cards featuring key characters from the show — Ghoul, Maximus, and Lucy. Moreover, Lucy will not only get a personal card but also appear on two others: on Spirit Mantle, she is depicted leaving the Super Duper Mart store in a Vault suit, and on Pre-War Formalwear — in the chaos of a cornfield on the night of her wedding. Maximus will also appear twice, with his image featured on the personal card and on the T-60 Power Armor card.
Besides references to the series, fans will also find a selection of five cards inspired by Fallout: New Vegas. These include Benny, Joshua Graham, Platinum Chip, Custom Caravan Deck, and Sunset Sarsaparilla Vending Machine. As is often the case in the Secret Lair series, the developers took the path of reinterpreting existing cards while preserving their mechanics. For example, the Sunset Sarsaparilla Vending Machine works similarly to the Nuka-Cola vending machine from the main Fallout set: it provides food tokens that can be converted into treasures.
Among other new items is the return of Dogmeat in five new cards. One of them is particularly noteworthy: a Sol Ring analogue designed as a dog’s water bowl. In addition, the Rad Secret Lair release will introduce cards themed around mutants and mutations, including The Wise Mothman.
All these novelties will be part of the Rad Superdrop, scheduled for release on January 26.
