The original Resident Evil trilogy, enhanced by GOG, released on Steam
In 2024, Capcom and GOG joined forces to make the three classic Resident Evil titles officially playable on PC. At first the polished versions stayed on GOG alone. Now they show up on Steam as well.
You can find each game at the links below, but note: purchases are blocked in the Russian region.
- Resident Evil (1996).
- Resident Evil 2 (1998).
- Resident Evil 3 Nemesis (1999).
Until April 15 there’s a 50% discount — each copy is 1,817 tenge (≈ $5). The releases do not include Russian language support.
GOG’s team went through the trilogy and applied a batch of compatibility fixes so the old code behaves on modern machines. e.g., rendering options were updated. Controller input was adapted so pads don’t feel broken. Alt‑tabbing and exiting no longer produce the freezes they used to. A handful of smaller glitches were patched, too.
One Steam-specific change: the versions there include Enigma DRM. Annoying for some users, useful for others — take your pick.
Also available on Steam is another GOG-enhanced Capcom classic, the RPG Breath of Fire IV. It’s priced the same as the RE releases and likewise cannot be bought in the Russian region.
