Arc Raiders Developers Provide Detailed Report on New Matchmaking System, Debunking Many Myths
The announcement of the "aggression"-based matchmaking system in Arc Raiders sparked debate within the community. The developers clarified that its purpose is to group players with similar playstyles: PvE enthusiasts will be placed into more peaceful lobbies.
Embark's Design Lead, Virgil Watkins, specified that the system does not evaluate player intentions but merely records technical data—who shot first, who dealt damage. It does not make "moral judgments" and does not consider context.
Watkins confirmed that players can influence their rating by avoiding conflicts, and the team has no issue with that. The main goal is to create comfortable conditions for different playstyles, not to isolate PvP enthusiasts.
He also denied the presence of classic skill-based matchmaking, noting that the system operates solely based on the "aggression rating." The developers continue to fine-tune this mechanism, guided by community feedback.
