Road to Vostok Sales Reach 300,000: Due to the Game's Stunning Success, the Creator Had to Interrupt Vacation

The solo developer behind the hardcore tactical shooter Road to Vostok cut a planned break short after the game unexpectedly moved ~300k copies. Antti — a one-person studio — had hoped for a 2–3 wk pause, but a sudden pile-up of follow-up work made that impossible. He posted about it on his Discord.

Considering the launch (~300k copies sold), I was surprised by how many small details are involved in the "post-launch period." These topics range from bookkeeping and tax/banking issues to getting up to speed on business matters once revenue changes quickly.

What might sound like "good problems" still stole time from new content; Antti says most legal stuff is nearly done. He expects the first Steam payout at the end of this mo., and once that arrives he plans to crank up development pace — yes, hammock swapped for spreadsheets, apparently.

On the support side, his bug-report inbox has shrunk: 11,000 unread → ~500 unread, so triage is underway.

Looking ahead: patch 0.1.2.0 is about 75% ready and will be the last major update before the game's second build (Q3 2026). The patch focuses on mem & sound optimizations, bug fixes, and fresh content. The second build in Q3 should also bring the official merch launch.
