Lucas Filmed the Duel Between Obi-Wan and Anakin from 'Revenge of the Sith' in the Presence of a Friendly Robert De Niro
More than twenty years have passed since the premiere of "Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith," and not all secrets have been revealed yet: a new intriguing detail was shared by Hayden Christensen at Fan Expo New Orleans.
During the filming of one of the most crucial scenes, the duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker on Mustafar, Robert De Niro unexpectedly dropped by to visit George Lucas. Christensen, by the way, will soon reappear before audiences as the Jedi in the second season of "Ahsoka."
I remember one day while filming that fight, Robert De Niro showed up on set, just because he wanted to see what we were doing—not us, but George, [he] wanted to see what George was doing. And, of course, I'm a huge fan of his. I remember standing next to Ewan [McGregor], and Ewan says to me: "Is that Robert De Niro standing over there?" And I look and think: "Yeah, I think that's him." And we were thrilled he was there, and then he came over and was very friendly. And I remember, because I was doing a lot of push-ups before every take to get my heart rate up and get a little tired, and he came up to me and said: "You know, I see you doing push-ups before takes." He said: "I do that too." That was nice.
