Several Far Cry Titles Are About to Become Twice as Smooth
Ubisoft has hinted at an upcoming update bringing 60 frames per second support to three games in the Far Cry series. According to a post on X, the boosted frame rate will be coming to Far Cry 3, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, and Far Cry: Primal.
The series' team posted an image with a set of emojis that fans quickly deciphered. The jungles of Far Cry 3, the neon world of Blood Dragon, and the prehistoric theme of Primal are easily recognizable. The repeating motif of a "six" and "frames" clearly points to 60 fps.
In the comments under the post, Ubisoft didn't keep the intrigue going for long: when asked about a patch for Far Cry 3, the developers replied that it was already clear what was being discussed.
The "youngest" game on the list remains Far Cry: Primal, released in 2016. The project sends gamers to the Stone Age, where they must hunt, gather herbs, and tame all sorts of fanged, clawed, and other prehistoric creatures. Far Cry 3 and Blood Dragon were released over a decade ago, so a 60 fps update for them seems overdue but a welcome bonus.
For now, Ubisoft hasn't clarified whether the updates will be limited to just a boosted frame rate or if they will also touch on other aspects like optimization or minor improvements.
Recall that, according to Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming, at the beginning of last year, Ubisoft rebooted development on a multiplayer project with extraction elements set in the Far Cry universe. Initially, the action was planned to be moved to Alaska, with a focus on wildlife and harsh conditions, but the concept was reconsidered after internal evaluations.
Simultaneously, the company continues work on Far Cry 7, which is going by the codename Project Blackbird.
