GW has no control over the filming of the Warhammer 40,000 movie adaptation — it's all in the hands of Amazon MGM Studios In its financial report, Games Workshop commented on the protracted preparations for the Warhammer 40,000 movie universe starring Henry Cavill.
CEO Kevin Rowntree confirmed that the project is still in development with Amazon MGM Studios, but emphasized: "The implementation is not under our control."
It has been more than three years since the deal with Amazon was announced, and fans have yet to see a single frame or any specific details. Rowntree explained that for projects of this scale, "it's normal to take several years," and the studio is relying on its partners for timing.
Earlier, Henry Cavill, who will produce the project and play one of the roles, acknowledged the "complexity and multifaceted nature" of adapting the Warhammer 40,000 universe, but called the task a challenge that excites him.
At the same time, Games Workshop announced a separate episode based on Warhammer Age of Sigmar for Prime Video — the fantasy part of the universe. It will be a continuation of the successful animated episode based on Warhammer 40,000 for the Amazon anthology Secret Level. The company is also discussing a potential second season of Secret Level with new writers.
