Popular Streamer Gets Only a "Warning" for Demonstrating Serious Exploit in ARC Raiders
Embark Studios, the developer of ARC Raiders, has begun applying sanctions against players who abused a recently discovered item duplication exploit. The bug allowed for mass cloning of ducks and obtaining grenades in huge quantities, severely disrupting the in-game balance.
The exploit was known to a limited circle of players and had not spread widely — until popular streamer TheBurntPeanut demonstrated it. The content creator has 1.9 million subscribers on Twitch and 1.59 million on YouTube. The live stream demonstrating the bug on YouTube attracted 138 thousand viewers. After this, the number of players using the exploit skyrocketed — the vulnerability went viral.
After releasing a patch fixing the bug, Embark Studios announced that punishments would be assigned based on the "severity, intent, frequency, and scale" of the violations. Thus, players whose actions significantly impacted the in-game economy or other users' experience would be banned. In less serious cases, coins obtained via the exploit would be removed, and for minimal violations, a player would only receive a warning.
The situation took an unexpected turn when it became known that TheBurntPeanut received precisely this last option of punishment: the streamer got only a "fair play reminder." In a published clip, he showed the notification from the studio and apologized several times, with few believing in the sincerity of those apologies.
This caused a wave of outrage in the ARC Raiders community. Players consider it unfair that the streamer, whose influence directly provoked the mass use of the bug, got off with a warning. In the users' opinion, TheBurntPeanut bears special responsibility — it was his demonstration that gave the exploit wide publicity. Many fear that the lenient punishment undermines trust in the moderation system, as regular players could have received stricter sanctions for similar actions. Furthermore, users note that a public example with a serious reaction from the studio could have prevented similar incidents in the future.
As of now, Embark Studios has not provided official comments regarding the special approach to TheBurntPeanut. The community awaits clarification on the criteria for assessing the "severity and scale" of violations, as well as whether measures against other participants in the incident will be reviewed.
