Embark Boss Patrick Söderlund Appointed Chairman of Nexon's Board

Patrick Söderlund, founder and CEO of Embark Studios (the developer behind THE FINALS and ARC Raiders), has been appointed Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors at Korean publisher Nexon, the parent company of Embark. The success of ARC Raiders played a key role in this decision. Söderlund will retain his role at Embark.

According to the press release, Söderlund is known for his hands-on approach to strategy and creativity—exactly the leadership style Nexon currently needs for its transformation.

In his new role, Söderlund will have broad authority: he will define the company's long-term strategy, creative vision, and global game development principles, working closely with Nexon's CEO and President, Junghun Lee, and the senior management team.

Nexon has everything needed for rapid growth: a highly talented team, legendary franchises, a huge loyal community, and excellent skills in managing live-service projects. This is a unique opportunity, but it will require focus and strict discipline. Junghun and I have a clear understanding of what needs to be done, and I am ready to get to work. Patrick Söderlund

Patrick Söderlund is a highly valuable asset for Nexon. Although not the flashiest "star" in the gaming industry, he has built an impressive career. In 1997, he co-founded Refraction Games, and when DICE acquired it three years later, Söderlund became CEO of DICE. Subsequently, he took on the role of Vice President at EA after it acquired DICE in 2006. He left EA in 2018 to found his own company, Embark Studios, which came fully under Nexon's wing in 2021.

Söderlund and Lee have promised to provide more details about the aforementioned Nexon transformation during an investor briefing on March 31st.
