Original Saints Row Design Director: "I think the franchise is dead"

Last November, former design director of the first Saints Row Chris Stockman wanted to revive the series after the unsuccessful 2022 reboot and mentioned that publisher Embracer Group had shown interest in his ideas.

Now, Stockman admits the situation is hopeless: the developer wrote to a fan on Discord that Embracer is ignoring him and has no ability to do anything with the franchise.

Honestly, I think the franchise is dead, unfortunately. I get the feeling that Embracer is completely incapable of doing anything about it. I wish it were different. I tried to offer them something, but they just ignore me. Chris Stockman

Recall that after the closure of studio Volition in 2023 as part of Embracer's restructuring, the company's boss Matt Karch noted that the team "didn't understand what they were doing" and "had no direction."

One would like to hope that Embracer is simply preparing a cunning plan and secretly developing something truly high-quality in the Saints Row universe. Believing this, of course, is difficult. It seems the last game in the franchise will remain the highly controversial 2022 reboot.

Remember when we got excited about the prospect of a Saints Row prequel? Well according to Saints Row 1 Design Director Chris Stockman, Embracer is completely ignoring the idea.

Saints Row is once again dead.
