Debut Trailer for the Dark RPG Asthenia Released
A solo developer has presented the first trailer for the role-playing game Asthenia, which immerses players in the oppressive atmosphere of a decaying otherworld. The footage showcases gloomy locations and terrifying enemies, setting a harsh tone for the upcoming adventure.
The plot casts the player as an ordinary person who unexpectedly finds themselves in an alien and hostile dimension. An atmosphere of hopelessness reigns here: resources are dwindling, distorted creatures roam everywhere, and a mysterious rotting disease relentlessly consumes the very fabric of reality. To survive, the hero must carefully study their surroundings and seek out powerful artifacts that can provide some advantage in the struggle for existence.
Central to the gameplay mechanics is the Ancient Gauntlet — a mysterious relic that combines the functions of a deadly weapon and a tool for interacting with the world. According to the creator, it is the gauntlet that sets the unique rhythm of combat and opens unconventional paths to solving problems, forcing the player to think outside the box.
In creating Asthenia, the author drew inspiration from genre classics — Resident Evil 7, Silent Hill, Outlast, and Dark Souls. Furthermore, the game incorporates the developer's personal experiences: he aimed to create a world where every discovery becomes a reward for the effort expended, rather than being handed to the player on a silver platter. Every decision here carries weight and can influence the further course of events.
A key feature of the project will be complete freedom of exploration — without navigational hints or markers. Players will have to rely solely on observation and intuition to uncover the secrets of this grim world. The developers promise a well-developed mythology, a deep atmosphere, and three different endings depending on the choices made.
Asthenia is being developed for personal computers. The release is scheduled for 2027. The game is currently in active development, but the trailer already allows one to appreciate its dark mood and the author's ambitious vision.
