Antonio Banderas doesn’t know if Puss in Boots will appear in "Shrek 5" – the actor has not yet invited to voice the character
Antonio Banderas gave an interview to The Times, and the conversation wandered back to his early Hollywood years — a period when casting felt restrictive, sometimes bluntly so, with Latino actors often pushed into villainous parts.
That mindset stuck around for a long time and kept doors shut. Zorro was the pivot: a noble Latino hero that upended the usual casting script.
Puss in Boots carried a different kind of weight: aimed at kids, he arrived speaking Spanish — some hearing an Andalusian flavor — and the audience was invited to like him, not fear him.
"Shrek 5" is due June 30, 2027, yet Banderas says he still doesn’t know whether Puss will show up; as of now (i.e., no invite yet), he hasn’t been asked to return for the sequel.
