Fans of Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm can forget about a new installment — at least for the next ten years. CyberConnect2's head, Hiroshi Matsuyama, stated that the studio is changing course and intends to focus on original projects rather than licensed games.
In an interview with Famitsu, Matsuyama explained that the team has spent decades creating games based on iconic universes like Naruto and Dragon Ball, which was their "greatest dream." But now the goal is more ambitious — "world domination through content," meaning creating characters and worlds from scratch that could become as recognizable as Goku.
The new game in the .hack universe will be the first step in this direction. Matsuyama did not specify how strict the rejection of licenses would be, but the direction is clear: the studio will devote the next ten years to itself.
