Another Cut-Down Version? PlayStation 6 Graphics Won't Be Full RDNA 5

According to the latest information from the reputable insider KeplerL2, the graphics processing unit in the upcoming PlayStation 6 will not use the AMD RDNA 5 architecture in its "pure" form. Instead, Sony will once again resort to creating a custom hybrid solution, combining elements from different generations of AMD graphics.

This most likely means that the graphics in Sony's next console will once again be weaker than solutions with a similar number of compute units and a full implementation of the RDNA 5/UDNA architecture.

The insider reminded that the original PS5 is also not built on full RDNA 2. In fact, its chip is an RDNA 2 after removing many blocks deemed "unnecessary" for the console. The situation with the PS6 will likely repeat itself — Sony selects only those RDNA 5 features necessary for their vision of console gaming, cutting out the excess to optimize and keep the device's cost within reasonable limits.

Meanwhile, the next Xbox will most likely once again utilize a full implementation of the new architecture.
