For its 50th anniversary, Sunrise has enlisted the support of Production I.G and announced the anime "Armored Warriors VOTOMs: Haiiro no Hexe" (Soukou Kihei VOTOMs: Haiiro no Hexe). This will be the first completely new work in fifteen years based on the cult franchise that debuted in 1983. There is a teaser, but with virtually no details such as the format. However, the new work will be directed by Mamoru Oshii, creator of Ghost in the Shell.
The plot centers on the century-long conflict between the Gilgamesh Confederation and the Balant Union, the outcome of which on the battlefield depends on VOTOMs — vertical single-seat tanks designed for defense and maneuvering with high firepower, but extremely vulnerable.
