Yet More Layoffs — Ubisoft Cuts Around 40 Employees in Toronto
Another piece of news about layoffs in the gaming industry once again involves Ubisoft. This time, the company decided to cut around 40 positions at its Toronto division, which is working on the production of the Splinter Cell remake. This represents approximately 8% of the entire Ubisoft Toronto staff.
The layoffs were first reported by the developers themselves, and later confirmed by company representatives:
This was a tough decision, and it in no way reflects the talent, dedication, or contributions of the impacted employees. Our priority now is to support them through this transition period by providing a comprehensive severance package and offering all possible assistance in their search for new employment. Ubisoft
Despite the layoffs, the Splinter Cell remake is still in development. The project managed to avoid the recent series of cancellations, but it still has no release date. The last update on the game came at the end of last year when David Grivel once again took on the role of Game Director.
