An Anthem Fan Server Is Unlikely to Launch: The Frostbite Engine Is to Blame
The attempt by fans to restore the servers of the discontinued game Anthem has encountered serious technical problems. The small group of enthusiasts, The Fort's Forge, which started after the game's official shutdown, has only managed to create a limited test prototype.
The main obstacle has been the Frostbite engine, which in Anthem is deeply intertwined with EA's server logic, making reverse engineering extremely difficult. The game's behavior remains unpredictable—for example, NPCs do not appear on some maps.
Project participants admit that progress is slow and requires many months of effort. They urge the community not to harbor false hopes, as the project exists solely on the enthusiasm of volunteers and does not guarantee success. The future of the initiative depends on whether they can figure out the intricacies of the engine and maintain motivation.
