A24 to Present Horror Film "The Backrooms" — A Screen Adaptation of the Viral Backrooms Universe

Studio A24 is preparing to release the sci-fi horror film "The Backrooms" — a full-length screen adaptation of the expansive viral universe created by YouTuber Kane Parsons. The film will immerse viewers in a nightmare inspired by the internet legend of a mysterious, infinite paranormal space inhabited by dangerous entities.

The foundation for the film is Kane Parsons' series of viral "found footage" videos on YouTube, which amassed nearly 100 million views in 2022. Notably, Parsons himself, a 19-year-old director and VFX artist, has taken the director's chair for the project — marking his feature film debut.

The film's plot follows a psychotherapist who ventures into the unknown to save a missing patient. The heroine must penetrate a mysterious, terrifying dimension — the monotonous rooms and hallways of "The Backrooms," where she will face trials and encounters with anomalous phenomena.

The lead roles are played by Chiwetel Ejiofor ("Doctor Strange") and Renate Reinsve ("Sentimental Value"). The cast also includes Mark Duplass ("The Good American Family"), Lukita Maxwell ("Therapy"), Finn Bennett ("Knight of the Seven Kingdoms"), and Evan Jogia ("Resident Evil: Raccoon City"). The film is produced by James Wan ("The Conjuring," "Saw").

The international premiere of "The Backrooms" is scheduled for May 29, with its Russian release set for June 4. The distributor in Russia will be the company "Volga."
