Xbox Aims to be More Consistent with Releasing its Games on PS5 and Switch

During a recent Xbox presentation, it was announced that the reboot of Fable will release simultaneously on all platforms, including PlayStation 5. However, the port of Forza Horizon 6 for the Sony console will be delayed for some reason. What could be the cause?

The head of Xbox Game Studios, Craig Duncan, has the answer.

As the executive explained, the division's main goal currently is to allow as many gamers as possible to experience projects from Xbox. However, due to the "reality of development," it hasn't been possible to consistently release titles on all platforms simultaneously yet.

At the start of production, there's always the reality of development related to team size and initial plans. When the strategy changes, it's not always possible to adapt the original vision to it. Sometimes it's possible, sometimes it's not. <...> Sometimes we act inconsistently. You might find some games in one place, others in several places at once. But know this: we are aware of it, working on a solution, and striving for greater consistency.

Duncan emphasized that Xbox has only a "limited amount of resources" to maintain a steady flow of multiplatform releases. Furthermore, teams themselves can determine whether they can deliver a product of equally good quality with a simultaneous launch on multiple platforms. And if there are doubts, the port for Switch or PS5 can be released later.

"We just want to ensure the highest possible quality for each specific game on each platform. That's why we leave ourselves room for maneuver: sometimes the priority will be a PC release, sometimes a console release," conveyed Duncan.

Returning to the new Fable, this is one of the most important releases from Xbox Game Studios in 2026, so the developers responsible for it want as many series fans as possible to be able to appreciate the studio's work, the executive noted. And although Playground Games hasn't worked on RPGs before, Duncan is confident the team is doing an excellent job.

At Playground, they have reimagined a number of ideas from the original Fable trilogy. I am simply thrilled with the Living Population system — every time I imagine how it works and what an incredible layer of depth it adds to the gameplay, it takes my breath away.

The Fable reboot will arrive on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series, including Game Pass, in the fall of 2026. There is no precise information yet regarding a Russian language translation.
