The spin-off, titled "Fairy Island," is being pitched as a "National Geographic-style expedition" into the realm of darker creatures — i.e., a documentary-flavored, visually driven probe of fairy landscapes and cultures. Expect a lot of imagery and atmosphere, tied together by an emotional throughline; think more observational travelogue than straight-up fantasy blockbuster.
On the production side: Roy Conli (DisneyNature) and Angelina Jolie are listed as producers. Industry chatter says if "Fairy Island" clicks with audiences, it could clear the path for a third "Maleficent." Jolie herself has previously confirmed she’ll return to the franchise, so the door isn’t closed.
For context: the original film pulled in north of $758 million at the box office, and the sequel also performed strongly. Whether that pedigree will speed things along remains to be seen — fans will have to wait a bit longer.
