Warframe Prepares for 13th Anniversary with New Update The Shadowgrapher

The team at Digital Extremes announced a sizeable update for Warframe dubbed The Shadowgrapher, arriving around the game's 13th anniversary. It isn't just a patch — they're treating it like an event.

Leading the pack is the 64th Warframe, Folly. Ink is her gimmick and her tool; her kit centers on black-and-white visuals and motifs of fear and painting. Her signature weapon, the Enkause, is a beam rifle that can drop "painted" enemies instantly (e.g., a precision finish when conditions are met).

Folly can also literally bring doodles to life: draw on a canvas and watch objects appear in the world — from explosive barrels and traps to life-support capsules. The devs call it a "sketchbook" feature and, amusingly, say it both inspires and unnerves them — "but within reason." I can already imagine some chaotic player-made contraptions.

A new mode, "Hunt for Folly," lets players wade through ink-soaked environments to gather materials needed to create her. Progressing the mode flips the script: Folly begins hunting you, an unnerving stalker experience that feels a bit like Mr. X from Resident Evil, i.e., relentless and looming.

The update will also include:

  • Gauss and Grendel Deluxe skins
  • new Drifter/Operator appearances
  • an improved clan system and revamped rewards

Warframe's 13th-anniversary festivities kick off on March 13, and The Shadowgrapher launches on March 25 — the latter timed to coincide with the game's release on Nintendo Switch 2.

Recall that the game was previously released on Android.
