Steam's Latest Update Improves Controller Support and Fixes Critical Bugs

Valve has released another update for the Steam client, focusing primarily on optimizing the Steam Input system and fixing a number of technical issues.

The most significant changes concern the Big Picture mode. Previously, when connecting a new controller, users encountered an annoying problem: button icons in the interface did not update correctly. This bug has now been fixed — the system instantly recognizes gamepads from various manufacturers, including Xbox and PlayStation devices. Additionally, full support for the wired Nintendo Switch 2 controller has been restored.

Serious improvements have been made to the stability of games with DRM protection. Developers have resolved issues that caused sessions to crash in titles such as Mafia II and Football Manager 2012. Furthermore, the correct operation of vibration and force feedback functions on gamepads and steering wheels has been restored — users previously reported malfunctions in these features. Issues that occurred when using a VPN have also been resolved.

Refinements have also touched other key components of the client. Noticeable improvements have been made to the chat and library, aimed at enhancing convenience and security. Game filters have become more understandable and intuitively accessible, simplifying the search for desired content. In the communication sphere, user protection has been strengthened: direct messages in public chats are now disabled by default, reducing the risks of unwanted interaction.
