Tom Hanks Lands Lead Role in Baseball Dramedy
Tom Hanks (“The Green Mile”) has signed on to star in Dave Eggers’ sports dramedy The Comebacker; reports also link Bad Bunny (“Bullet Train”) and Colman Domingo (“Sing Sing”) to the project, though nothing’s official across the board.
The story revolves around Lionel, a sports journalist whose spark is unexpectedly reawakened by a baseball player — after an injury, that athlete’s behavior shifts in strange ways and, oddly, he begins to speak in poetry (e.g., declaiming lines at press conferences).
Directing will be Marielle Heller, who previously worked with Hanks on “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” — a reunion of sorts. As for when we’ll see it: the release date is still TBD.
