THQ Nordic refused to explain the paid upgrade for Darksiders on PS5

THQ Nordic has pushed out an updated build of the original Darksiders for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S — but not everyone gets the same treatment. Xbox players receive the Series X|S upgrade at no extra cost; PS4 owners, however, are being asked to pay for the PS5 update (roughly €9.99 / $9.99). The publisher confirmed that Darksiders Warmastered Edition owners on PS4 can upgrade to PS5 for €9.99/$9.99, while Xbox One players will get the Series X|S version for free.

The so-called next‑gen refresh looks modest when you open the patch notes. The main improvements announced include:

  • native 4K on PS5;
  • stable 60 FPS;
  • photo mode;
  • DualSense and Activities support.

Many in the community pointed out that tweaks like these are often shipped as free patches rather than as a paid upgrade. Journalists asked THQ Nordic for clarification; the company's reply was brief: No comment. To add another odd detail, the publisher raised the price of the older Xbox release from $19.99 to $29.99 after this update landed, while the PS4 listing kept its original price.
