Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Recon Studio Faces Layoffs — Ubisoft to Cut 105 Jobs
Ubisoft will lay off 105 employees at the American studio Red Storm Entertainment, creators of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. The remaining staff will focus on the Snowdrop engine, IT, and customer support.
At one time, Red Storm contributed to Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR and most of the Tom Clancy’s series creations, as well as participating in the development of Far Cry 3 and 4. It will remain part of the Creative Network group but will no longer develop games.
Ubisoft representatives promise comprehensive support and severance packages for the laid-off employees. However, judging by similar situations in other company studios, it’s hard to take these promises at face value.
This is all part of Ubisoft’s cost-cutting and reorganization program. Strikes, layoffs, and project cancellations have become routine in the news surrounding the company and no longer cause surprise.
