GOG is Giving Away the Alone in the Dark Trilogy for Free, the Series that Inspired Resident Evil's Creators

The GOG store has started a giveaway of the classic Alone in the Dark trilogy. This promotion is part of the GOG Dreamlist program—a campaign dedicated to preserving classic games. You can claim the trilogy until February 5th inclusive.

For our part, let's remember that Alone in the Dark was released in 1992. And although the term "survival horror" didn't exist at that time, the creation by Infogrames laid the foundations for gameplay mechanics that were later used by the creators of Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and a whole host of other horror games.

The success of the game spawned two sequels, released in 1993 and 1995. In 2001, the first reboot titled Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare was released, which didn't gain much fame. The latest game in the series was the 2024 version of Alone in the Dark—a remake of the very first part. Unfortunately, it did not meet the publisher's expectations, leading to the closure of the developing studio, Pieces Interactive, in the same year.
