Hyperkin and GameSir have announced a joint development — the X5 Alteron wireless gamepad, distinguished by its unusual modular design. Its key feature lies in its removable control blocks: users can swap them, customizing the button layout and control elements for specific games or personal preferences.
The device is made in a form-factor with sliding telescopic mounts, ensuring its versatility. The gamepad is compatible with smartphones, tablets, and the Nintendo Switch console, effectively replacing the standard Joy-Con controllers. Additionally, thanks to Bluetooth 5.2 support, the X5 Alteron can be easily connected to a personal computer.

Engineers particularly highlight the innovativeness of the removable modules, which open up extensive possibilities for personalization. Users can vary the placement and type of sticks, change the button configuration, and select the optimal shape and response of the D-pad. Specialized blocks replicating the layout of classic controllers — for example, for Nintendo 64 and GameCube — have already been demonstrated. The range also includes more specialized options: a module with a trackpad aimed at first-person shooters, and an arcade-style block designed specifically for fighting games.

On the back of the gamepad are additional programmable buttons and Hall sensor triggers. These triggers can be switched to a shorter stroke, providing faster response in gameplay. The controller is equipped with vibration motors, and capacitive analogs are used for the sticks, resistant to the common problem of drift.
Currently, the manufacturers have not disclosed the expected release date of the X5 Alteron to the market or its estimated cost. It also remains unclear whether the additional modules will be sold separately or included in the basic package of the device.
