Star of "Heartbreak High" Cast in Live-Action Adaptation of "Gundam" with Sydney Sweeney

Deadline says actress Gemma Chua-Chan ("Heartbreak High") is on board Netflix's live-action take on the anime franchise "Gundam" — the headline even pairs the project with Sydney Sweeney, so that's part of the framing here.

The name traces back to the 1979 anime “Mobile Suit Gundam” (Kidou Senshi Gundam). Since then the property has ballooned into many entries over the years — series, films, games, etc. — rather than a single tidy lineage.

Chua-Chan’s character and the film’s plot remain undisclosed (e.g., the studio has not released casting details beyond names). Details are thin right now — yes, really sparse — so reports list people more than parts.

Also named in the cast are Noah Centineo ("Black Adam") and Jason Clarke ("Terminator: Genesis"). More recently, Michael Mando ("Better Call Saul") was reported to have joined as well.

The project is being directed and written by Žim Mickl ("Sweet Tooth: The Boy with the Deer Antlers").

Filming is expected to begin in April (FYI), so more concrete information — and likely more casting news — should surface as production ramps up.
