The Creators of the God of War Show Have Cast Actors for the Roles of Thor and Odin
The creators of the series based on God of War continue to share their casting decisions — the roster of bearded men attached to the adaptation has grown by a couple more. They will play two antagonists — Odin and his son Thor.
Odin, also known as the All-Father and King of the Aesir, will be played by Mandy Patinkin. His credits include the thriller "Homeland", the drama "Wonder", and other works. Odin may not seem like a formidable opponent at first glance, but appearances are deceiving, as he is actually the most powerful god in the Norse pantheon. He is driven by a thirst for knowledge and will stop at nothing to prevent Ragnarök.
The mighty god of thunder, Thor, will be portrayed in the adaptation by Ólafur Darri Ólafsson. You might have seen him in series like "The Split", "True Detective", and "The Neighbors". Unlike his father, Thor is a mountain of muscle. The thunder god has been through countless battles that still haunt him. Once a loyal warrior of Asgard and his father's chief support, he is now but a pale shadow of his former heroic self, drowning the memory of the exorbitant price of his victory in alcohol.
Patinkin and Ólafsson will star alongside Ryan Hurst (Kratos), Teresa Palmer (Sif, Thor's wife), Max Parker (Heimdall), and other, yet-to-be-announced actors.
To recap, the plot of the adaptation will bring the story from the two-part soft reboot of God of War to the small screen. Kratos, together with his son Atreus, set out for the highest mountain to scatter the ashes of Faye, Atreus's mother and Kratos's wife. Along the journey, Kratos tries to teach his son the ways of a god, while Atreus, in turn, aims to remind his father that humanity is also important.
Amazon has ordered two seasons at once. Filming is scheduled to begin in March.
