Meta, Banned in Russia, Bets on Nuclear Energy to Power AI: Huge Capacities Reserved

Meta (banned in Russia) has signed deals with three nuclear energy companies — Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo. The goal is to power its growing AI infrastructure, including the future Prometheus supercluster. By 2035, Meta will have access to 6.6 GW of new and existing capacities. Together with a prior agreement with Constellation Energy, this makes Meta one of the largest corporate buyers of nuclear energy in the US.

Partnership Details:

  • TerraPower: Meta will finance two promising projects. By 2035, eight new Natrium reactors with energy storage capability will be launched.
  • Vistra: The company will purchase over 2.1 GW from existing nuclear plants in Ohio and will invest in their modernization.
  • Oklo: The partnership aims to build small modular reactors in Ohio by 2030 to power Meta's new AI cluster.
