Bloober Team Aims to Fully Unlock the Horror Genre's Potential in Games

The Polish studio Bloober Team, widely acclaimed for its remake of Silent Hill 2, is convinced that the horror genre in video games is far from exhausting its potential. The studio's director, Wojciech Piejko, shared his vision of the situation during the Videogame Week event by Voxel School.

Piejko drew a parallel with the film industry, where the horror genre has gone through a full cycle—from a surge in popularity to a period of decline and a subsequent triumphant revival. Today, he says, there is a surge of creative ideas in both gaming and cinematic horror. As an example, he mentioned Robert Eggers' film Nosferatu (2024), which demonstrates fresh approaches to a classic theme.

"I would say that horror fans are currently well catered for," the director noted.

This statement is supported by the active work of Bloober Team itself, which over the past decade has established itself as one of the leading specialists in the field of horror games. Among the studio's landmark projects are the Silent Hill 2 remake and Cronos: The New Dawn.

The team is currently focused on a new ambitious task—creating a remake of the first Silent Hill. This project confirms the studio's desire not just to follow trends, but to delve into the classics of the genre, reinterpreting them with modern technology and narrative possibilities.

Bloober Team's position reflects a general optimism about the future of the horror genre in the gaming industry. The studio sees it as an inexhaustible source for experimentation, capable of offering players new emotional experiences and unconventional plot solutions.
