Durov Refused Musk: Grok Will Not Appear in "Telega" Despite a $300 Million Offer
Telegram has declined the integration of Elon Musk's Grok neural network and the potential $300 million investment. According to the founder of the messenger, Pavel Durov, the deal fell through due to fundamental disagreements on data protection: Telegram is not willing to provide an external AI access to users' conversations.
Instead of cooperating with xAI, the company will focus on developing its own technology — the decentralized Cocoon network. Its key principle is to process AI requests without transferring data to third parties. According to Durov’s design, this will maintain full anonymity of conversations and control over the infrastructure.
The question of a possible partnership with Grok had been raised earlier, in May 2025, but even then the parties could not agree on access to user data.
