A new trailer for the drama film "Birthday Party" has appeared online. It first screened at the 78th Locarno Film Festival in August 2025, and now — for the first time outside that bubble — the project is drawing wider attention.
The action takes place on an isolated Mediterranean island in the late '70s (c. 1978). At the center: Marcos, an influential businessman who stages an extravagant celebration for his daughter Sofia. Glitter and music, yes. But there are private motives beneath the surface that could radically alter her life.
Willem Dafoe leads the cast as a man with a double agenda. Supporting players — e.g., Victoria Carmen Sonne, Emma Suárez, Joe Cole, among others — add pressure, mystery and emotional weight to the story.
Although audiences saw it at Locarno, a full worldwide release date hasn’t been announced. The filmmakers are keeping details tight and, for now, have offered only the trailer — which is already turning heads.
