Showrunner of the upcoming series "Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" Ira Parker shared details about how the adaptation relates to George Martin's novels. According to him, the team is not striving for a frame-by-frame reproduction of the original source material — the characters of the key heroes have been adapted to work better in the format of a television series. The main characters — Dunk and Egg — have retained their essence, but have acquired new nuances. For example, Egg in the series version has become a little more quick-witted and sarcastic compared to the book character. Dunk still struggles with self-doubt, but now it manifests itself differently: he calls himself a fool less often, and his doubts are presented more as a stable character trait than as a consequence of childhood trauma and ridicule.

A significant portion of the changes were made during filming, largely thanks to the actors' performances. Peter Claffy (Dunk) and Dexter Sol Ancell (Egg) brought so much individuality to their characters that the writers had to rework a number of dialogues to emphasize their on-screen chemistry. At the same time, as Parker emphasizes, all changes were agreed upon with George Martin. The writer reviewed the revised characters and approved the changes.

The premiere of the first season of The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is scheduled for January 18, 2026, on HBO. The team is already working on the second season, and the future of the project will depend on how it is received by viewers.
