Japanese studio Nihon Falcom quietly posted a teaser hinting at a new entry in Dragon Slayer, timed to coincide with its 45th anniversary. The company started in March 1981; within a few yrs it released the original Dragon Slayer.
Details are thin. The Dragon Slayer Project is up, but concrete info — platforms, release window, dev notes — is basically missing for now (no official roadmap, no big reveals).
Back in the day, Dragon Slayer helped put Falcom on the map. The series grew to six titles and produced the spin-off Lord Monarch; that 1991 entry leaned into strategy and tactics rather than straight-up RPG mechanics. After those releases the franchise went quiet — decades passed with no new numbered entries to speak of, and many long-time fans have been waiting (some cautiously).
These days Falcom is better known for other RPGs. Last Sept. saw Trails in the Sky: 1st Chapter hit storefronts and pick up solid user praise, and in 2023 the studio released Ys X: Nordics, which also found its audience.
Is this a straight remake, a brand-new sequel, or something else? Hard to say. My guess: Falcom will aim the project at modern players — updated tech and different design priorities make a true 1:1 recreation unlikely. Nostalgia will be part of the pitch, sure, but expect notable changes (i.e., not a carbon copy of the 1980s originals).
