According to Kit Harington's idea, his character suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after leaving the Wall: he gave up his sword, drove away the direwolf, and found painful solace in the cycle of building and burning huts. The series was supposed to end with Jon Snow's death, depriving him of his image as a traditional hero. According to the publication, this idea may have been partly inspired by Harington's personal experience.
HBO considered the concept too depressing and rejected it. However, work on the project continues in a different vein. One of the new options involves moving the action to Essos and the possible appearance of Arya Stark. Despite this, the prospects for the series remain uncertain, especially since Kit Harington himself is not eager to return to the role.
