Team Spirit Dota 2 Coach Outlines Ways to Get into Esports and Criticizes the Job Market
The manager of the Team Spirit Dota 2 roster, Dmitry "Korb3n" Belov
The Market is Oversaturated
Belov directly recommended that aspiring specialists choose any other discipline, as competition among managers in "Dota" has reached a critical level.
- Tier-3 Level
- It's easy to get here — you can join any stack or amateur team without problems, but most likely without a salary.
- Tier-1 Level
- Entry is practically closed. Top positions are held by people who have been working in them for 5–8 years (like Korb3n himself or Lukawa from BetBoom Team). In other cases, spots are often taken by "brothers-in-law" or industry veterans.
"There's no way you should be noticed by a tier-1 team, because people in tier-1 teams have already been working there for 5-8 years. <...> And in other teams, it's usually either brothers-in-law or just guys who have been working in the industry for a long time."
Three Paths to Success
Despite the pessimistic outlook, Korb3n, in his characteristic ironic manner, highlighted several ways to break through to the top:
- Working Abroad
- Try your hand in English-speaking or Peruvian teams.
- Sports Results
- Assemble your own team and achieve outstanding success with it, so you get noticed together.
- Networking (Specific)
- Building connections by catering to players or management.
Earlier, the head of the Team Spirit academy, Dmitry "Soul3" Bukhteev, revealed details about the club's early development stages and the specifics of his work at that time. The specialist told how he had to be "the person solving little issues" and explained how his engineering experience helped organize protection for bootcamps from DDoS attacks.
