The adventure platformer Mina the Hollower was rated higher than 007 First Light

Critics have been gushing over the stylish action-adventure Mina the Hollower, made by the team behind Shovel Knight. You control Mina, a mole who whips through an island blighted by a curse, facing foes and environmental hazards, and experimenting w/ assorted weapons and accessories.

“Expect a cast of oddball locals, strange corners to explore, and secrets tucked into every nook — the island won’t cure itself.”

Soon after reviews appeared, aggregator scores jumped — even edging out 007 First Light, from the creators of Hitman:

  • Metacritic — 93 points (32 reviews);
  • Opencritic — 92 points (28 reviews), with 96% of critics recommending the game.

And yes: as of 16:45 the title had collected eleven perfect scores — eleven. Some outlets write that tension holds up to the end (completion is approx. 20 hrs), praising level design, visuals, and audio. Others call it nearly flawless, a kind of “living classic” that leans on well-worn, proven mechanics. Puzzles get nods, too; the action is even recommended for fans of The Legend of Zelda, Castlevania, and some of FromSoftware’s DNA.

Launch day is May 29 (two days from now): PS5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC will all get it. So — maybe don’t be quick to write off the studio Yacht Club Games.
