Schreier: Content in GTA VI Still Not Fully Completed
Grand Theft Auto VI has already been postponed several times. Will it happen again? It's hard to say, but Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier stated that the sixth GTA still lacks complete content. He shared this on the Button Mash Podcast.
"It's a big and intricate game. Last I heard, the work on content is still not complete. At that time, there was active work: finishing and polishing levels, missions, determining what would make it into the final build," said the journalist but did not specify when he received this information.
Schreier explained that the standard development cycle usually sees the content completion phase coming after the functionality is finished, and only then the title moves to debugging and bug fixing. However, even during the error correction stage, new ideas may arise that could be added to the release version.
GTA VI was prepared for release in 2025, then moved to May 2026, and currently, November 19, 2026, is the set release date. According to Schreier, it's now hard to say if the launch will need to be postponed again.
It's unlikely anyone at Rockstar can guarantee 100% that the game will be released in November. But November 2025 seems more tangible than the previous "fall 2025."
Rockstar Games always strives for perfection — the team won't allow an unpolished game to launch, Schreier believes. If additional time is needed, Rockstar has until the end of March 2027, when the fiscal year of parent company Take-Two ends. But "every time a release is delayed, T2 stocks drop by 10%."
Additionally, Schreier noted that the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI is very important for Sony. Yes, GTA will visit Xbox Series too, but the insider called PlayStation the "main platform" for the game: "Most sales will be on PlayStation, and with that, consoles will sell more actively.”
Schreier speculated that Sony is planning its entire release calendar around GTA VI and "won’t release any of its exclusives too close to GTA."
